The holidays are coming! The holidays are coming! It doesn’t seem quite possible (maybe because we had all of a 5 minute Fall) but it’s true, the holiday season is rapidly approaching.
For some of us, this time of year is met with jubilation and anticipation. For others, it’s not. If you’ve experienced a loss of a loved one, loss of employment, or any other life-altering event this year, it’s altogether possible the holiday season is approaching with a sense of heaviness rather than joy; a sense of dread rather than elation. For many of us, the reality of it all is somewhere in the middle. Because any way you slice it, the next few months require a lot from us - whether it’s our time, our financial resources, or our energy. As festive as it may be, let’s be honest - it’s also deeply exhausting. Wherever you may be this year (mentally and/or physically) it is possible to stay connected to your mindful practices - even during the frenetic pace of the next few months. Furthermore, it’s entirely possible to use these practices - both in large and subtle ways, as helpful resources to keep you grounded, calm, and present.
The beauty of your pranayama (breath) practice is that you can literally do it anywhere. When you feel overwhelmed, start to notice your breath. Begin to deepen your inhale, and extend your exhale. It may sound simple, but it’s one thing we’re all able to control in the midst of chaos. Same with meditation. You don’t need a fancy cushion or a silent studio space to sit in stillness for 5 minutes. Continue practicing checking in with yourself. Perhaps practice saying “yes” to some things, and “no” to others to protect your energy. As always, we’re here to support you - both in the studio and online. Moving your body, connecting with community, spending time in the healing himalayan salt studio, or in the far infrared saunas are all helpful ways to reduce stress these next few months. We’re all in this together. You got this!
